Our 3 favourite menswear looks from the 2019 Oscars

Our 3 favourite menswear looks from the 2019 Oscars

February 26th, 2019

There are few events that allow us to admire mens formalwear the way the Oscars do. We kept our eyes peeled during the broadcast for looks that led the way, and we weren't disappointed. We saw lots of texture, from velvet to brocade, and daring colour choices at an event that can often feel like a sea of black.

Here are our top three menswear looks from the 2019 Oscars

1. John Mulaney - Floral Jacquard

John Mulaney walked on stage with Awkwafina to present the award for Best Animated Short in a floral jacquard dinner jacket by Pal Zileri, which we currently have in the store. He styled it the same way we did with a similar Pal Zileri jacket--black trouser, white shirt, and black bow tie. What we love about this dinner jacket is that it makes an elegant statement without being too loud. He could easily wear this jacket again to a rooftop party with jeans and a black tee underneath.

2. Richard E. Grant - Red Velvet

Richard E. Grant was full of glee on the red carpet. It was his first ever Oscar nomination (despite having a long and established career), and the excitement was palpable. His jovial attitude was carried through in the vibrant velvet jacket from Brunello Cucinelli, which is right on trend for the season’s rich berry hues. The satin peak lapel adds a formal touch, and he kept the rest of the look classy and minimal with black trousers and a black bow tie.

3. Javier Bardem - All-Black Formal

An all-black formal look is a sleek alternative to typical black tie attire. The tonal and textural choices Javier Bardem made with his outfit take it to a whole new level. The textured jacket, shiny satin lapels, matte black shirt, and mother of pearl buttons create subtle interest that allow Bardem to stand out in all the right ways.

Special Mentions

Jason Momoa - Pink Velvet Tuxedo

Pink velvet tuxedos aren’t usually our go-to look, but we have to give Jason Momoa props for this tribute to Karl Lagerfeld. The tux was from Lagerfeld’s final Fendi collection, and Momoa wore it well.

We've never seen anything like this, and we love the wrap shawl lapel. It's out of the box without being obnoxious.
