We love when a classic brand looks for new ways to innovate, and New Balance is definitely one to watch. Not only are constantly adding new tech to their sneakers, they’re also experimenting with style in a way that we haven’t seen before.

As part of their new “Be the Exception” campaign, New Balance is placing cameras around a booth in New York in advance of NY Fashion Week to spot unusual footwear choices from the general public.
Using machine learning to identify style anomalies, New Balance will give free shoes to those who stray from the norm. They’ll be rolling these booths out in Toronto, Stockholm, and Madrid later this fall.
They’ve also hinted that they may use the data collected to create new, anti-trend looks for future collections. We love this celebration of risk-taking in fashion and can’t wait to see what they come up with.
