Planning an ensemble for an night out and stuck with choosing between two outfits? Let Amazon’s Echo Look help you. The retail technology giant just announced a voice-controlled camera and an app synced with the Echo Look that recommends an outfit for you to wear. This fashion forward hardware and software compliments Jeff Bezos’ ambitious plans of owning an emerging online retail market.
Adding a camera that can capture hands-free selfies will be a crowd favourite for fashion enthusiasts eager to socially share their outfits of the day. The Echo Look will use cutting-edge technology to learn your style and make recommendations based on insights from powerful algorithms, the latest trends and opinions from fashion experts.
Like groceries, we purchase clothes on an on-going basis and it is a re-occurring need that Amazon is betting on. As Bezos himself puts it, “To be a $200bn company we have to learn to sell groceries and clothes.”
Like groceries, we purchase clothes on an on-going basis and it is a re-occurring need that Amazon is betting on. As Bezos himself puts it, “To be a $200bn company we have to learn to sell groceries and clothes”. Where Amazon looks to make money will be by suggesting clothing available for purchase from their online platform. To add, the company is looking to create an appetite for product it designs in-house.
This “keeping everything in-house” theme may remind you of a previous move that Amazon has taken to create and fully own the shows published on Amazon Prime Video. Being an innovative retailer and producer has allowed the company to grow from an online bookseller to an online eCommerce behemoth.
Growing apparel sales for Amazon are currently challenging Macy’s dominating position as the leader in the worldwide retail category. Amazon have been able to establish strong customer relationships, optimize their distribution efficiency and back their growth with important user-buying information. Only time will tell whether their bet on adding a digital personal stylist in your wardrobe will pay off in the future.
