If you’re the type of guy who wears a suit grocery shopping, we’re all for that. But if you like a bit more comfort in your life, a good, casual knit is a must-have. Just because you’re wearing casual attire doesn’t mean you get a free pass for being sloppy. Crewnecks, hoodies, and t-shirts can still look stylish if you do it right.
One of our favourite casual knitwear lines is Alex Mill. Their products get better with each wash and wear, developing character and increasing in softness as time goes on. Each of their seven socially and environmentally conscious factories has its own specialty, allowing Alex Mill to create unique, custom weaves and knits for each piece. Take a look at how we styled a few of their pieces below.
HOW TO WEAR CASUAL KNITWEAR WITHOUT LOOKING SLOPPY
1. PREP
It’s no secret that we love a good preppy look. To pull off a casual sweater in true prep style, you’ve got to wear it with a collared sport shirt. We think a natural grey crew neck with a flannel shirt underneath looks well put together. Worn with chinos, sunglasses, and crisp sneakers, this look is easy and smooth. You can rock this look both in fall and winter.
2. STREET
The street look is all about cool, casual layering. A bright colour like this mustard hoodie acts as a statement piece, while a soft denim jacket tones it down just enough. Choose slick black sneakers and either distressed blue denim or a slim-cut grey wash jean to make sure the casual vibes are carried throughout the look. Add a bit of an edge with blue sunglasses, rather than a typical black or brown.
3. SUNDAY
There’s nothing like an easy Sunday, and we’ve got just the look for it. You can be comfortable and relaxed without looking like you’ve given up on style. A graphite henley like the one we’ve chosen is easy to throw on without having to overthink it. Texture always look good, which is why we like the slub cotton from Alex Mill. The look practically pulls itself together. Throw on a pair of blue jeans and white sneakers and you’ll be ready for whatever Sunday throws your way, whether it’s beers at a friend’s house or all the errands you’ve been putting off all week.

Remember, the real secret to pulling off knitwear is a good fit. If it’s too tight or too baggy, you’ll always look a bit of a mess, no matter how well you’ve styled it. When in doubt, opt for a larger size. Tight is toast.
