Get to know the faces behind The Helm.
We’d like to introduce you to Zach, one of the people behind The Helm helping our clients become some of the most stylish men in Edmonton and beyond.
Zach’s history with The Helm starts back when he was still in high school, and although he left us for a bit to spend some time in Vancouver, he came back in 2018 and is one of our top sales associates today.
Not only does he kill it on the sales floor, but he also helps with styling for some of our social posts and occasionally even models for them. We love his fresh approach to fashion and what he brings to the team.
How long have you worked at The Helm?
I started with the team in October of 2012, I was the first employee actually. I left for two years from September 2016 and came back September of 2018. Some would say I call The Helm "home.”What got you interested in the menswear world?
I've always been intrigued by the menswear scene. When I was a kid I remember watching movies and admiring the different styles. It's funny actually, I remember watching the 'Ocean 11' movies and admiring the entire cast's style. Brad Pitt and Clooney in particular. All in all, I've admired luxury from a young age. What’s your favourite part of what you do?
Oh man, where do I start? I would have to say the relationships that turn into friendships. Over the years, becoming friends with the people who shop with us is inevitable. This is definitely a big part of why I wake up and am excited for work. You never know which one of your friends is going to walk through the door. But I have to say putting on a cozy cashmere sweater and a sport jacket is a close second... LOLWhat’s your favourite item in the store right now?
That’s a tough one... I would have to say the new Brunello Cucinelli overcoat is pretty fresh. A little bit of a generous fit gives you the option for dressy or casual. The craftsmanship behind this piece is amazing, and the double-sided fabric is so unique. This piece literally had to be hand sewn. What’s one of your favourite memories of working at The Helm?
HA! This is a loaded question. It's hard to pick just one. My top three would have to be: The Pal Zileri launch that we put on back in 2014, heading down to Montana to shoot the Private White VC collaboration, and going to NYC this past December for my first buying trip. How would you describe your personal approach to style?
My approach to style is fairly laid back. In the past couple of years I've started to really dive into the knitwear scene. Polo's, t-shirts, and turtlenecks are my "go tos" these days with a suit or sport jacket. I'll change it up every once in a while and throw on a shirt, tie, and a 3 piece suit. But, knitwear is my steeze for sure. What’s a style trend you would like to see men embrace in Edmonton?
I would love to see Edmontonians get back into wearing suits. Suits are getting a lot more casual and easier to wear these days. Especially with this WFH mentality, I would love to see our guys get back into wearing suits even if it's at home. Look good, feel good right?
