For those interested in style, fall can be an exciting time of year. It feels like the start of a new year, and with it comes a fresh approach to style. After dealing with the heat all summer, we’re ready to embrace some intentional layering.
Layering gives you the chance to breathe new life into old favourites. With the right pieces, you can transform your look without needing to invest in a whole new wardrobe. Here are three key looks you should be trying this fall, along with some tips to make sure you pull it off well.
1. For The Office
One of the easiest ways to create a dressed-up layered look is to throw a mock-neck zip-up cardigan under your sport jacket. We like it over an open-collared dress shirt or with other knitwear like a cashmere polo. It’s a great look for the office, especially now that the office is starting to look a little more casual, but this works for events or date nights as well.
Key tip: Be mindful of the weight and fit of the sweater. If it’s too heavy, it will look bulky under the sport jacket. Cashmere and fine-gauge Merino wool are usually great choices.

2. For The Busy Weekend
If you’re spending a day in the city, bouncing from errands to coffees with friends to dinner dates, you’ll want layers that can cross over. Combine casual items like a denim jacket and lightwash jeans with a more refined statement piece like a lux wool overcoat so you’ll look slick regardless of what you’ve got on your plate for the day.
Key tip: Choose crossover shoes for this look too, like a rubber-soled loafer or leather lace-up boots. They’ll look sharp if you’ve got the overcoat on, but they’ll still suit a more casual look if you leave the coat in the car while running errands.

3. For the Cabin
Or the pub. Or the couch. A layered up hoodie gives off universal chill vibes no matter where you are. We particularly like knit hoodies worn with sherpa jackets right now, especially when the tones are similar throughout, like the creams and tans shown here.
Key tip: Choose a knit hoodie rather than an athletic one to create a more refined feel. Same level of comfort, but a more grown-up look.
