SS/14 Sneak PeekAugust 6th, 2013
It has been a busy buying season for us here at The Helm. Apologies for the lack of content over the past month. ANYWAY, I thought I'd share a bit about what we've been up to over the past three weeks, and the new product lines we are looking forward to bringing in next spring.
Ovadia & Sons
Going into their showroom in SoHo, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the feel and overall aesthetic of their space. Shimon and Ariel greeted me at the front entrance, taking a break from shooting the seasons looks, and gave me a thorough overview of their SS14 collection. I was quite impressed with what I took in. To the left as I walked into the showroom was a bust-form with a motorcycle style neoprene jacket layered over top of a stunning 100% silk crewneck sweater with white cotton trousers to finish the look off. The colour story unfolded into a nice black, white and green theme which was remarkably elegant. They were also showing an array of brown, navy and mustard tones, which we booked a good portion of our order from. The one thing that stuck with me was the quality of the product they were showing. In the short time the two brothers spent with me, they were clearly doing this with a strong understanding of the importance of quality and old world tailoring. We are truly excited for this collection to land.
This is a line that Brad and myself have had our eyes on since we laid down the blueprints. The very idea of this line was directly in our wheelhouse. The Slowear family consists of four world class product lines. Incotex (trousers), Zanone (knitwear), Montedoro (tailored clothing) and Ganshirt(shirts). Our main reason for setting up my meeting with Emilio was to view their pant line, Incotex. After a brief guided tour, it was time to work. I came into the meeting expecting to see some of the best cotton and wool trousers available, period. This is exactly what they delivered. Clean high twist wool dress slacks with an unbelievable attention to detail. Colourful cotton chinos with beautiful blended cotton/linen fabrics from their popular "Chinolino" collection. My personal favourite was the modern cargo they were showing, it had clean side zips with hidden upper pockets - very refreshing to see. Brad and I have been looking to obtain the best value and product for every department here at The Helm, and I'm happy to say that we have secured one of the best pant companies in the world. Look for Slowear to land January 2014.
Well, Corneliani is not a new line for us, it was a wonderful SS showing for them. As seen above, the entrance into their Madison ave showroom always make a statement. Wonderful pops of red and teal throughout the collection of greys and sand tones. Elegant is the only word I can use to describe the collection.
More to come
